  • When selecting a ballast make sure it is compatible in lamp type, wattage, and system voltage. 
  • Ballast can come in magnetic, electronic, and dimming ballast. 
  • Ballast also have power factors, High Power Factors are required for commercial use and Low Power 
  • Factors are permitted in residential areas. 
  • To avoid flickering electronic ballasts should be used. 
  • To reduce the humming that is commonly associated with magnetic ballasts use electronic ballasts.
  • To avoid glare use adequately shielded fixtures.
  • When exposed to extreme temperatures fluorescent lamps will operate at a lower performance level. Optimal fluorescent performance occurs between 68 to 122 degrees.
